nothing much to show today. Mostly just messing around a lot inside unreal engine's foliage, nanite, and LOD settings. I started also messing with unreal's procedural foliage generator that allows you to generate grass clumping, growth patterns, and patchiness in the grass, which is really cool honestly! Ill have something hopefully to show on that specifically tomorrow.

So I decided to work on making a cable generator with geometry nodes for my room render! I was originally going to just get a nice addon for it (cablerator) but I decided I'd give it a try to make a simple version of it to use instead. Took over 2 hours to get "done" but here it is! Today I worked more on the crate. Added some dirt along the bottom, a small dark tint along the edges of the model, and some more color variation within the wood. Also decided to add some wooden grooves into the beams, since it looked a bit strange not to include them. I think it's looking pretty decent now.

Today I worked on ID mapping and texturing for the crate. Unfortunately the jam project wasn't able to get finished in time, but I still was able to get in a lot of practice! Today I found out I got covid 😣. Gotta love a nice 102 degree fever! 🥳 So that's why this texturing is a bit simpler than my other models, I'll probably work more on it tomorrow.

Worked on a couple things today. First I imported all my models and textures into unity. I also decided to put in my stone wall texture (that I made in the telephone game jam) as a possible option for a wall texture. Not sure if Ill end up using it, but if I don't get time to work on another wall texture, this may end up being it. I do notice a slight art style difference between the floor/wall and my actual models, so I may end up redoing/tweaking those floor/wall textures if I have time, but it may just end up staying that way due to time constraints. Additionally, I started working on a model for the player. The player is planned to be a pangolin (which isn't going to be the easiest to model) but I'm going to attempt to do it! So far I'm just starting off with the basic anatomy of the pangolin before moving onto the scales and face.

Working in substance designer on a floor texture for a level. Not fully finished yet, still needs lots of value tweaking, but it's a decent start. It's been a while since I've used designer so I'm a bit slower than usual too lol.

Nothing really interesting to show today, just worked on some scripts for possible obstacle ideas I have. So far just some simple moving platforms and pushing obstacles that can push the player. Soon Ill start working on some more environment art to make the levels look better, since this level is just for testing purposes.

Today I worked on some programming (since we are a bit behind on programming for the jam game) and setup a simple scene and player movement for the game. It's not much, and it's still a work in progress, but it ended up taking a bit longer to get this done since I had to quickly review some of the unity terminology for programming since it's been like 6 months since I've done much unity programming. Also worked on getting some of my models added into the game. So far the game seems to be going into the whole monkey ball-ish type game with obstacles and stuff. But still a rough draft right now on that.

Today worked on my barrel! It's pretty much finished, so I got started on a wooden crate to go along with the barrel. The modeling and UV unwrapping is all finished on that, so all that's left for the crate is ID mapping and texturing.

Finished up on the cannon texturing! I think it came out pretty nice. So next I'll be moving on to texturing the barrel!

Today I got started on texturing the cannon! Still a work in progress, but it should be done pretty soon. If I had the time, I'd definitely go and sculpt a high poly version (and then bake it) to make the edges look a bit nicer (and give some better looking wear rather than just painting it on in substance), but it'll do considering I'm working in a jam. Also worked more on my barrel today, that should be ready soon for texturing as well!

Made the model for the standalone cannon today and got started on a model for the barrel! I think the cannon came out pretty well, so all that's left for it is the UV unwrapping, ID mapping, and texturing!

Today I worked on texturing the ship! Not sure if this will be the finished texturing (I may need to do some adjustments depending if it doesn't fit with the art style and if we want to add any fictional insignias to the flags depending on how the story gets developed). But overall, not too bad. I went with a tri wood color setup (main wood color, and two secondary wood colors). I thought it looked a bit better than just two color types, but if anyone thinks it looks off/clashes weirdly, let me know and Ill go experiment with that some more!

Today I finished up on the UV unwrapping and the ID mapping! It took a bit longer than expected to do those, so I couldn't get to texturing, but tomorrow I'll be able to get started (and hopefully finished) on that! Btw (if you don't know about ID maps) these are not going to be the colors of the ship, these just make it much easier to texture in substance when you have multiple meshes that require different types of texturing (like the sails versus the main frame).

Today I've been working on some art for the game jam that started yesterday! Late last night (technically today), and tonight I've been working on a pirate ship! The game is going to be pirate themed, so having a pirate ship would be pretty important. I think it's coming along decently well! It isn't finished yet, but I'm hoping by tonight Ill have it finished and partially textured so by tomorrow I'll be finished!

Today's the first day of the 2 week game jam I joined in (along with a lot of people from the GDA discord as well! team of 8!) Currently we are planning out the game design part of the game and figuring out the art direction for it!
