Today was a productive day. I bought the website domain for and announced my own little studio to the world! I figured that since im gonna be selling my games on steam from here on out i may as well establish an official studio even if it’s just for show. Please welcome Bleach Software to the world! In the process of trying to stylize the game, I decided to pixelize the terrain. How do you guys think it looks?

Huge update: after about a month of consistent work, Topposition is FULLY PLAYABLE, albeit locally!!! The assets used for the players and UI and such are placeholders but the game is fully functional and the terrain is almost exactly how i want it to be. I had three goals going into this project: 1. Build my own custom engine from scratch (using a graphics library tho ofc), 2. Have randomly generated maps, and 3. Have online multiplayer and be able to join through Steam. Yes you heard that right, I do plan on releasing this on steam! It’s really exciting as it’ll be my first official game with a price tag. I plan on charging $5 for the game with the option to buy a 4 pack for $10. I’m working really hard now and making a lot of progress and this is a huge step towards a complete product, but I know once the semester starts progress will slow down considerably. Still, I want the game released by Christmas of this year. I don’t think its too unreasonable of a goal. 

Eventually itll come time to market the game. Truthfully, I don’t really have much knowledge in that area of expertise, so if you have any advice you can give for marketing my game, please hit me up! I’d love to chat. 

Also, should I make a page in the #💻game-development chat for the game to explain what it really is?

more map progress!!! things are looking superrrr promising 😄 i got rid of texture filtering which was making the layers not blend together properly, but instead overlap on top of each other. i also added terrain with varying heights and the way different peak points combine with eachother to create unique looking geometry is super exciting to me! e.g. the lower right combined peaks

Here lies my first update for Topposition as I begin creating the engine from scratch. My first priority was to create a map that could be zoomed in and out of relative to the position of the mouse. From my understanding its much less complex to move and scale everything relative to the "camera" (or canvas, rather), instead of creating a movable perspective-shifting camera. So basically when zooming things should scale then move relative to where the mouse is, giving the illusion the camera is zooming in towards the mouse, ala google maps (as shown in the video). My next step is to create render layers and detect which sprite is clicked. This becomes considerably harder with sprites with transparent backgrounds (aka all sprites) that don't utilize the full space of their dimensions. My plan is to create a system that checks if an object lies within the range the mouse is located, then check if the specific pixel clicked was a transparent one or not. If so, we check the next layer down, and repeat the process. I don't like the idea of checking every object per layer but I haven't thought of a better solution just yet. We'll see, I suppose.

After long deliberation, I have decided my next step in my game development journey.

Last spring I created a board game titled Topposition for a class project. It was a land acquisition-based strategy game in which players command troops that climb mountains on a topographical map and claim them as their territory. As a concept I was so proud of how it turned out that I briefly looked into pitching it to actual board game companies like hasbro. I have decided I want to expand the project to a full on video game. Here are some of my lofty goals:

- Randomly generated maps
- Online multiplayer
- Custom engine

We’ll see if i buckle on one or all of these down the road but I’d rather reach for the stars than just stick to what I know. Of course, i’ll be keeping updates of all my progress here. Wish me luck!
